Lost in translation

There are times when I find having two language in one's mind be very very tricky. Even as I am typing this down, I feel slightly embarrassed that I sometimes struggle between translating between the two native tongues (English and Malay) I have practised all my 29 years of speaking. When I was living in New Zealand, it was the English jargon and unfamiliar association of words to situations that I find myself getting confused when doing tasks or conversing with my local peers.I remember feeling terrible about how poor my English skills were until I meet other English speakers ( elsewhere including the English people) who seem to understand me just fine. I carried on fine afterwards, accepting that my accent was always going to be bit of an issue, but that really has nothing to do with my well being or whether there was anything wrong with me.Watching Sofia Vergara's character with her new family in "Modern Family" definitely made me remember the many times where my ...

dear you

Image
Dear sad girl, It is highly advisable for you to stop being in contact men in your past that, whilst still very helpful in assisting you in your troubles and getting that smile back on your face for some unbeknownst reasons. This help/assistance may very well still affect your emotional health in the following hours/days/fill in the blanks when reality comes kicking in. Reasons for disillusion: He may still be as good looking as you remember the reasons why you fell for him in the first place. What can you do, you did share a history. He may also still call you pet names that you secretly hate, but allow it anyway because it was intimately shared between the two of you and no one can take that away.    He will tell you what makes you beautiful is your smile, your easy-going persona...your laugh... and you will believe it- DONT! The main point is, he knows you. He will no doubt find a way to (fill in the blanks with any intimate knowledge of you) ...

The Climb

Image
Rock climbing. Heights. Ropes. Big Challenge. Falling on purpose. Why not? Finally got to try it out with a friend today. Mainly she was just belaying but hey, I haven't felt this good in a while. I am grateful. Perhaps its the fact that nothing in my life is going right the moment. Everyday emails of rejection for my job posts and bill reminders... every ledge I stepped on felt like I actually reached something. I had been wanting to try it forever, when rats and the other boys did it. But no, he reckoned I will just hurt myself. Like I always did. Why did I believe him? Dead tired, though. But good. And happy. Happy enough to sleep because I am too exhausted to think.  Maybe I'll get enough to be the girl in the picture someday...LOL. Wishful thinking.

Takoyaki Saturday

Imagine my delight while waiting for my kid sister shopping for her One-Piece (japanese comic phenomenon) merchandise  in Osaka, when I saw this small starter kit set for Tako yaki... other wise known as Octopus Ball... I had been waiting a while to try my hand at this. Plenty of times I saw it being made in the streets in Japan...also even in Malaysia...but let's see if its something I can test my skills with! Of course, this is another procrastination of work on my side.Between the mountain work (not to mention my upcoming Facilitator exam in one half week)... I had plenty to do..... But then again my dear brother coming home for the weekend, what better excuse to spend some quality family time in the kitchen?

Sleeping drugs

Image
It is almost about three months on my current doctor's observation and I still need all the help I can get to ensure a good night's sleep and manage my stress level. A sleeping disorder, they say.  Possibly to do subconscious issue I had to deal with. Ha Ha.What a laugh. I don't really have any pressing issues.  Not lately anyway. All issues are all dealt and done. The drugs are helping no doubt, but I try not to take it every day. It knocks me out cold within 5-10 minutes, no problem. Alternatively however, I would lie in bed for hours, with my laptop playing 'Criminal Minds' or 'Vampire Diaries' or 'How I met your mother'  in hopes to drift to sleep to their voices, but I think in the end it just over stimulates my brain.  So yes. I think that sums up why I have been rather quiet at work this whole week, as pointed out by WH and WY. I find it sweet that my colleagues are quick to notice my ...

NZ World vs Malaysia World

Ok. My job will be a lot more easier when specifying and assigning things into my designs if websites were concise, clear and to the point like this: instead of I understand we are yet to get there but with everyone on the street with personal ipads, blackberry, all other tablets possibly on the market (this includes the suppliers coming over to sell their products), surely one person will be smart enough to develop a library or an app( as the slang goes) for products available out there. Sigh. Come on. Get with the program KL!

Making Models and Mock ups

Image
I miss the times when I spent hours scouting for the cheapest model boards, spray paints  and experimenting on 5 different types of adhesives to make sure that my skins stays intact after the model stands. Nearly lost two fingers in one night from cutting plastic boards, but thats mostly due to lack of sleep. There was also a rough struggle with the Wellington wind whenever I had to transport my model from the flat to studio. To date, I have at least 10 of them stacked in the storage room at my parent's place. Dusty. Still standing tho. Its a shame to see all those years of practice just remaining a distant memory. I feel bit sad. We should make more models in the office. Or at least just dust the existing ones.
